Joining Hands, Joining Hope is a social initiative geared towards increasing access and interest towards STEM-based skills for girls and women from underserved communities. Our first step towards this goal is to curate the Tinkering Teens Activity Book for younger audiences to help them explore basic STEM concepts such as metal fusion, electricity transfer, and heat flow. To complement the information taught in this activity book, we are also curating the Home Science Experiment Kit with science experiments that children can conduct in a safe and simple manner.
At Joining Hands, Joining Hope, we believe that welding is a wonderful way to introduce women to STEM as it combines concepts of mathematics, technology, and science in an engaging and hands-on manner. Hence, we have developed the Iron Woman Skilling Program in partnership with Inox CVA, which provides women with little to no formal education with welding skills. As welding is traditionally a male-dominated field, we hope that our initiative will help break barriers for women in this STEM field, as well as others.
In order to increase access to employment opportunities, we will also be facilitating a certification program that will index the women who have completed the skilling program as qualified to engage in work required welding. Through this, we hope to increase their employability, paving the way for economic empowerment.
Lastly, our endeavors are aligned with Inox CVA’s goal of addressing the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals 4 and 5 which involve providing quality education and addressing gender inequality respectively. In this vein, we will also be hosting an online fundraiser to raise funds which will go towards providing ten girl students from underserved communities with scholarships to study in STEM fields.
